Health & Safety

Health and Safety is the single most important factor governing the management and site operations of our Company, whatever the size of the project, both for the operatives engaged on the site and the general public that may be affected by the works. Our health and safety culture extends throughout the Company from senior management through to our site personnel.

Our sites are set up with warning signs and fenced to ensure no unnecessary risks occur and our staff are fully trained and equipped to perform their tasks safely. Every operative and/or visitor on site is provided with appropriate safety clothing, tools, materials, plant and equipment.

We ensure that our workforce is trained to the highest possible standards, whether they are plant operatives, skilled groundworkers, surfacing specialists or general operatives.

Each project is assessed pre-construction for the safest methods in which to perform the tasks required. This is done through the preparation of detailed Method Statements and Risk-Assessments, which define both the general scope and individual tasks and how these should be carried out in a safe manner. Where particular sensitivities occur such as shared access through the construction period, extra thought will be given to ensure the safety of the general public and our workforce at all times.

Industry Accreditation:

  • SAPCA: Chiltern Sports are ‘Principal Contractors’ in the Sports And Play Construction Association (SAPCA). This organisation is recognised by the LTA and Sport England, whom refer to their ‘Design Guides’ for sports facility construction. We ensure we adhere strictly to the ‘code of practise’ set out by SAPCA and aim to surpass these standards wherever possible.
  • CONSTRUCTIONLINE: We are members of Constructionline, a body developed for the selection of approved contractors used by many public and private sector organisations throughout the UK, which requires minimum standards are achieved in a range of criteria including Health and Safety, Environmental Policy and Equal Opportunities.

Training:

We aim to achieve and maintain a 100% CSCS accreditation for all our employees, from management supervisors to management to labourers. Our plant operators are all experienced, trained and are certified to operate the plant.

We aim to have all our site personnel trained under the sports construction industry scheme to minimum NVQ Lvl 2.

We have our workforce trained by PASMA in the safe erection and use of working scaffolds.

Our management team conduct site specific inductions at the beginning of every contract.  Method Statement and Risk Assessment briefings are conducted for all operatives to ensure they are fully understood.  On going site training is conducted regularly via tool box talks given to operatives.
